Last week we hired Tim Roberson and his portable saw mill to come to our house and saw up the logs from the dead pine trees that we had cut down last fall. It was amazing how this machine worked and how fast Tim got the logs made into 1x8's, 1x10's, 1x12's, a few 2x4 and some 4x6's. The machine would lift up the log, a shaft would come up to push it into place and then when the outside bark was cut off, there was a thing that came up that flipped the log over so he could cut off the next side. When he got the log the size he needed he would start slicing off the boards. Took 2 days.

Marc taking the log down to the sawmill.

Marc would drop off the log and he and Tim would roll it up on two curved arms that lifted the log up on top of the machine.

Tim would then get into his chair and electronically tell the sawmill exactly what to do with levers and pushing buttons.

Marc would wait for the blade to cut a board and then he would pull if off and put it on the pile.

You can see the blade cutting a 1x6 board in this pic.
All this saw dust!

This is the pile about 3/4 done.

You have to let the wood cure and dry out for a month before you can use it, so here is our first stack with spacers in between the boards so it can dry that we put in the portable garage. We will have 2 more stacks at least this high before we are done.

After the wood dries we will then be able to plane one side, route it to fit together and then we can put it up in the upstairs of the garage. Will look somewhat like our knotty pine game room in the house. It is a time consuming project! We also bought railroad ties to fix the steps by the house that are starting to rot out. No rest for the weary!!!!
