Just Another Clay Snowmobile Adventure!
Saturday, 4 of us rode our snowmobiles up the main roads to get to the main groomed snowmobile trail. Riding up to the trail thru the fields was not possible. We rode 90 miles in all, heading down to Homer first and then up between Skaneateles Lake and Otisco Lake, the two lakes east of us. It was 38 degrees out and wet riding with snow falling most of our trip. We had to wipe our shields at least 150 times to be able to see. When we got near home, since we couldn't ride UP thru the fields above our house to get to the main trail, we thought we could ride DOWN from the main trail because it would be easier to go downhill thru the fields. So.......Marc started across the first field, thru the hedgerow and down the next hill. I followed with Sharon Bauman behind me and her son Brad last. When I got to the bottom, there was Marc stuck in the flat part. I cut in front of him and got stuck, with Sharon behind me burying her sled. Brad got a little further, but to no avail. So here we were...the 4 of us buried in waist deep snow one hour before dark. Thank goodness we had 4 of us, because it took us all to stomp down or (fall down on the snow as Sharon cracked us up, doing) to pack it down so we could lift the track onto a solid base. Then push we did and got them all turned around and onto the track we had made coming down. I was the first to go back up the hill. "Come on sled, come on sled, we can do this" I was saying all the way. Then Sharon, Marc and Brad followed. Finally we got to the main trail "buck and broncoing" across the last field but as we looked back Brad was stuck with 300 ft. to go. By now it is nightfall. Marc drove his sled down to help Brad get on track, but then had to ride to the very bottom of the hill again to turn around so he wouldn't get stuck. At the top we were ready to do Paper, Scissor, Rock to see who would have to go back down that track in the dark to help Marc if he didn't appear again! Then like a beacon his headlight blazed at the edge of the field and we were home free! 4 wet, very tired riders, riding the road and glad to be on solid ground to the bottom! We wanted more snow....well.... we got more than we bargained for!
